FINDING TRUE PURPOSE THROUGH SERVICE AND SURRENDER: DO SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF
BY AZARIAH
We live in a world that constantly tells us to focus on ourselves, our own comfort, and our personal desires. But the deepest paradox of life is that a self-centered existence will always leave you feeling empty. True fulfillment only comes when you dedicate yourself to something far greater than your own ego.
When you commit to serving others, you are being completely selfless. You are choosing to act for the greater good, and that choice is one of the most profound blessings you can experience. Far too often, people have to go through a traumatic, rock-bottom experience before they finally wake up to this reality. I don't want that to be your story. Let this blog post be your personal wake-up call to step up, look outward, and start living a life devoted to a higher calling, your family, and God.
THE TRAP OF SELF-SERVING AMBITION
There is a stark contrast between modern, self-serving ambition and traditional, purpose-driven duty. Culture teaches us to chase titles, followers, and personal glory, but cutting corners simply does not work with spirituality. The truth is, you have a massive debt to pay for the incredible life that has been given to you, and you cannot pay that debt by living only for yourself.
You must completely "give away your life to find yourself" through the intentional gift of self. Whether it is through your job, a sport, a specific vocation, your family, your siblings, your friends, or even running a business, you have to put yourself out there. When you channel your time, your unique ideas, your creativity, and your positive energy into encouraging joy in others, you unlock something incredible. Pouring your life out for the benefit of humanity isn't a restriction—it is actually the most freeing thing you will ever experience.
THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE OF THE EGO
God takes each of us through unique journeys specifically designed to build our confidence, expand our experience, and teach us to place our trust completely in Him over "human eyes". This journey requires us to constantly navigate the heavy tension between what our selfish nature wants to do and the strict discipline required to follow God’s path.
This spiritual and relational duty becomes exceptionally clear when we look at the core structure of a strong community: marriage and fatherhood. Committing to a marriage and raising children demands the ultimate, daily sacrifice of the ego. These callings are deeply worthwhile precisely because they are tough. When you have a family, you willingly give your whole self away. You learn to stop viewing your daily work and heavy responsibilities as an exhausting burden, and instead start viewing them as a profound act of gratitude toward the Creator. You will find that you feel the absolute most alive when you are doing your life's job with excellence and devotion.
THE TRUTH TALK
I want you to get one thing in your head.
You have to stop playing small and living only for your own tiny circle of comfort. You have an incredible capacity to be a force of positive energy in this world, but you have to stop waiting for life to get easy before you decide to serve. Stop making excuses, stop letting your ego dictate your choices, and accept the discipline of duty. True warriors don't live for themselves; they live to protect, honor, and elevate the people around them.
YOUR ACTION ITEM FOR THIS WEEK
My action item for you this week is to take a hard look at yourself.
Identify one area in your life where you have been acting entirely out of self-serving ambition or hiding in comfort. This week, consciously choose to give your time, your creativity, or your labor away to benefit someone else without expecting a single thing in return. Whether it’s serving your family, doing your job with a spirit of pure gratitude, or lifting up a friend who is struggling, step up and do it well. Commit to a plan of action, surrender your ego, and start living the bigger life you were created for.
